I could n't attach the doc. So copy/paste from my doc
General comments
- Although the different modules are built in sequence, I would have liked to see the overall site configuration (the main page of each sections). With regard the functional components four have been mentioned (and 2 described in the CIARIS_spec_003.doc), i.e:
o CIARIS Community
o CIARIS Projects
o CIARIS Library
o CIARIS Assist
These latest two are not clear.
Several questions remain unclear:
- This CIARIS site is an “aggregator” of various IT tools and organizations, i.e blogs in Mozambique, CAIS platform in Brazil, Agencia CIARIS Portugal. It this site simply link up with those or have a direct interaction (in terms of content ? and users ?) and higher visibility (a special section ?)
- How/Where would it be possible to have an overview of all CIARIS activities? (lead by STEP or directly decentralized – ex CAIS)
- What is the menu “ciaris.org” ?
Language:
- The site will be built during this first beta phase in English and Portuguese. Nevertheless, following discussions between Vicky and Bev, it seems that adding up other languages (at least for some sections) shouldn’t be too complicated. In particular for Spanish and Romanian. And more specifically for the Library section (or the section containing the main content already translated) How do we manage this ?
Partnership and logos
- CIARIS, as a KN development system is not restricted to the platform. Therefore, shouldn’t we associate (and make them visible) the other partners (CEA, Labtec, DLIS, RITS, PVNC, Ecosida, FDC, ILO/AIDS, etc.). Or should we distinguished (with regard to the platform) ILO units from the rest? = disclaimer and responsibility issues
- In terms of content, shouldn’t we differentiate (ex ILO/AIDS on content related to HIV), CAIS (for content related to Brazil – see CAIS site) => copyright and disclaimer issues. (question page 3). I.e an overall disclaimer on the main home page, and copyright (of ILO or others) of each sections (depending on the master)?
- I wouldn’t put the logos of ILO and STEP in the upper left coner. Like now, in the bottom of the page (with others) seems good to me (question page 1).
People’s involvement to build up the site:
- At what stage do we involve CIARIS major partners, i.e (more than CIARIS Friends) + Multiplyers (incl. Multiplicar leaders in the 7 countries, Partners in Mozambique CIARIS Moz network –FDC (Armancio, Rosemary), Paulo (ILO/AIDS), Susana (CEA), Balane (ECOSIDA), Centro Maes de Mavalane, etc- , Cap Verde. How will they be involved (skype call, emails, questionnaire, contributions, etc.)? It is crucial that they recognize the platform as their own It is an important issue as they mentioned (in particular through the Multiplicar project) to be sure to have a stable platform (and we are now in a process of proposing something new)
- At what stage do we involve every past and current users ? see 250 people from the database (no entries for the current users in Brazil).
Layout and design
- CIARIS logo. The CIARIS letters and logo could stick closer to ILO style or we could insert 3 squares in the upper right corner.
- Colors. I do not have a clear idea as mentioned of the overall sections. Shouldn’t we stick closer to the colors already used? It is a detail, the most important is that partners feel at ease.
- Photos. To use photos (to avoid permission problems), I would use the ILO Photo Gallery (see http://www.ilo.org/dyn/media/mediasearch.home?p_lang=en) . I’ll suggested some later on.
- Format. The format is a bit big and no so modern. I would rather use something a bit smaller and lighter. Same comment for the blog format. Could be improved by the designer. I will provide examples.
- Icon. I would use the type of icons Beverly used in the course material. Very nice and modern.
Introduction text.
- Page 4: Here is my suggestion: “Welcome to the CIARIS community - a network of people and friends from all over the world who are committed to combating social. Social exclusion may take very different forms and means and ways to combat it are very diverse depending on the context, the practices and the dimensions we take into consideration. Fighting against social exclusion need a diversity of skills and know-how depending on the population targeted and themes to deal with. By sharing our practices, knowledge and know-how on overlapping theme of interest, and different ways of working together we could make substantial progress altogether.
The community gathers people from more than 20 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and East and Western Europe. Some are working at policy level, others are local practitioners, from public and private sector, the academic world and the international community. We welcome all people who share our common concerns and wish to share their experience, both general and more specialized.
In this Community space you will be able to find out about the other people in the network, their experience, interests and what they are doing. You can find this out by visiting their profile, reading their blogs, or by clicking on a tag on your widgit that interests you, which will lead you to a person who has tagged themself with that label.
In this space you can also create a workspace for a small or big project, discussion or training that you want to carry out. You need to be a registered member to be able to do this, so please join now.
CIARIS also provide a resources database from experiences and practices to fight exclusion compiled from all over the world. So, don't forget to consult the CIARIS library, which you are welcome to browse and to add to.
Small comments
- the login box doesn’t work. Login by clicking on the “login” button
- Profile. It wasn’t clear what I choose to show in my profile (public and private) when I first enter the data. Birthday might be relevant, but I would leave as an option people can choose to show publicly.
Mandatory information should at least be the name, country, first language and email.
