For quite a while now I've been hearing conversations about Communities of Practice, how amazing they are, how much everybody wants to start one on a particular subject and how important they are to share knowledge, experiences and practices.

But what does it actually mean, "Community of Practice"? What does it imply? How do you nurture them? What formats/models can they assume? What can they bring to the work we are doing?

Taking these questions with me, I went to look for some answers in CPsquare Foundations Workshop on Communities of Practice. It started on september 15th and we've just started our second week. I will post later on how was week 1 and give account of week 2 as well.

The purpose of this workshop is to talk about CoPs, how do they start, how to cultivate them, how to integrate them in a organizational context and how CoPs are so relevant in a knowledge management context, responding to the need to see knowledge as a strategic asset and a source of value.

Working in CIARIS has made me to come across several concepts like Communities of Practice, knowledge management, mutual learning. Learning more about these concepts is becoming more and more important for me.

I expect my participation in the workshop will help me to understand better the nature of CoPs, reveal some of its mysteries, as the remaining mysteries can be unfolded over time and through the experience and work that the entire CIARIS community can do in the platform.
